The principal method for testing sulfur in all US RFG gasoline is D2622. Other ASTM methods such as ASTM D5453, ASTM D3120, and ASTM D7039 may be employed as long as they have a correlation established with ASTM D2622. For the state of California, the primary method for testing sulfur is CARB D5453. Testing of gasoline using CFR engines adheres to ASTM and other national and regulatory protocols. Octane tests determine gasoline properties that affect engine knocking.
